How has Baseline helped you to develop and expand your professional career as a Registered Professional Land Surveyor?

Baseline brought me in at a new role—Director of Surveying. I have previously been a Project Manager and a Survey Manager, but this is the first time I have been given the opportunity to build an office and a brand. I love this challenge. I also feel supported in my efforts to reach out to students, programs, universities, and within my professional organizations to further my knowledge.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of the job is all of it (except maybe billing). I spent a long time working in a position that allowed me to work in the field which was great. I love the puzzle of putting together a boundary. And I value the history of what we do—following in the footsteps of the surveyors and leaving behind footsteps to be followed. Surveying is math and science and history and art all in one.

Do you have any advice for young surveyors?

I still feel like a young surveyor! Surveying is a profession that no matter how long you are in it, you never learn absolutely everything there is to know. Or even see everything there is to see. My advice is to stay curious, keep seeking out experience, and continue to expose yourself to new (and old) practices.

Describe a typical day in the Baseline Richardson office.

Oh boy. I haven’t been here long enough to reach typical, especially with the growth! Every day is consistently filled with challenges and opportunities.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I recently developed a bit of a Broadway problem and have been to New York City three times since May of last year. I have subscriptions to the Broadway tours that are coming to Dallas and have tickets to 13 shows here. I flew to California last October to see a favorite star in a new show that used the music from Huey Lewis and the News’ Sports Album. Now, I am trying to balance adulting with running away to New York!
